Hello friends! I hope you are all well and are staying home (unless you are essential-and for that, THANK YOU) and healthy. I work in public health, so this is incredibly important for me! At Boho Fabrics, everyone is hoping you all are able to find some time to sew in addition to all your duties at home, whether that’s working remotely, taking care of families and homeschooling your kids, or adjusting to life staying home.
Yoday I’m going to share my latest make! As usual, I’ve been checking out Pinterest for cute outfits to wear this summer. Arizona is already starting to heat up (mid 80’s this week!), so I’m onto making tees, tanks, and shorts. But, knowing that we’ll need to stay close to home for the next few weeks, I also am looking for comfort! And let’s be real, something easy to match. 🙂
I came across this cute romper on Pinterest and immediately wanted to recreate the look! But, I also love the ease of faux rompers (hello bathroom)! I was inspired last summer to make a faux set by Sharon from Sweet Mama and made this French Terry set below (and linked here).
Based on the Pinterest image above, I wanted to find some cute, comfy drawstring shorts and a dolman top. I knew right away which shorts I’d sew up, but the top took a little thinking. I’ve had this fabric from Boho Fabrics in my stash since the holidays waiting for the perfect project.
I settled on the free Tulip Top by Patterns for Pirates. I’ve sewn this top quite a bit, and know how simple the non tulip version is. Quick sewing is great right now-I love easy wins, especially with everything happening these days. I made a size XS graded to S, lengthened about an inch.
I debating on banding the sleeves to look like the Pinterest image, but then ended up forgetting when I was sewing this up one late night. I think the look is still cute!
For the shorts, I went with my trusted Brassie Jogger shorts by Greenstyle Creations. I make a size medium, mid rise, with a small waistband. On this pair I slimmed the waistband by 1.5″ on the width and also shortened the inseam 1″.
I love this set! The stripes and colors aren’t exactly like the Pinspiration, but it is close enough for me. The best part about this is that I’m able to wear them together or as separates! The shorts would look cute with a white tank, and the top would look great with jeans. 🙂
Unfortunately, this exact fabric isn’t on the website, but there are lots of stripes and other cute fabrics that would make cute faux rompers! Boho Fabrics is here… just remember there is a delay in shipping because of current statewide closures.
How did I do? I’m loving this look and can’t wait to wear it while social distancing for at least the next month. 🙂
I know that true rompers and jumpsuits are very in right now, but I love the simplicity of making faux rompers and it is so fun also! I love being able to mix and match the pieces to be worn as separates or together. The key is to separate the look you’re going for, and find patterns that fit similarly! As with the two sets I have made, tucking in the tops make for an easy romper look!
Also, I couldn’t get by without making something for my son with the scraps! This is the 11th Hour Gear Tee by New Horizon Designs.
As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! Thanks for stopping by!
