Hello everyone! How are you? I hope you’re finding time to relax amidst everything happening in the world with COVID-19. There is a lot of uncertainty, and many disrupted schedules, families, etc. I know I have been wanting to sew more to keep my mind off the news and I hope you are able to find something that allows the same for you.
Today, I’m sharing my most recent makes for my two favorite guys-new undies! Greenstyle Creations has the Walbrook Boxer Briefs on sale this month and I was able to sew up a pair for my partner and my 3.5 year old.
I snagged the kids version first to test out the pattern. I had my son pick out fabric, and he reached for this Gray Louisa Floral Super Soft Poly from Bow Button Fabrics. He has been asking me to make him something from this fabric since I made this dress last October and I had never gotten around to it.
I made him the 3/4 size and used the low rise cutline. I ended up taking about an inch off the top since I decided to make a band. The pattern calls for encased elastic, but he isn’t a fan of elastic waistbands so I went with the band instead. I used Cotton Lycra from my stash.
I made the closed front and chose to do hidden seams like at the end of the tutorial. The tutorial provides very clear instructions and it was quite simple to follow! I cut them on the shorter length line, as he prefers his undies shorter.
When I was partially through, I knew I had to make my partner a matching pair! I quickly printed and cut out the men’s version. For him, I made a straight size large. I chose the lower rise because I wanted to use exposed elastic-his preference. This elastic is from Joann and is the soft waistband elastic that he likes. For these I chose the longer cut line, although next time I’ll add about an inch to the length, as he usually buys the long RTW boxer briefs.
I added the open fly to his. For both of the boxer briefs, I used the Carbon White Ultralight Tricot from The Fabric Fairy. My son was definitely disappointed his undies don’t have a pocket like dad’s… 😂
The gusset on these are nice compared to other patterns I’ve made. My partner said they are really comfy! His RTW boxer briefs have a gusset like this, so I’m glad a found a similar pattern!
When I was about finished with these two, I felt a bit left out. I decided to sew up myself some matching No Show Briefs and had juuuust enough fabric. I made size F and chose the low rise, cheeky version with Cotton Lycra scraps for the liner. I wore them yesterday and they didn’t roll! I’ll have to see how they hold up in the wash. 🙂
I’ll definitely be making the Walbrook Boxer Briefs again for these two! I think I might see what bamboo scraps I have left over… Undies are definitely my favorite thing to make with scraps!
As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! Thanks for stopping by!
