The Greenstyle team has done it again! A crop has been hinted in the group a few times… and the pattern is finally here! With a bonus-the overlay! This is such a fun pattern that can be dressed up or down. Read on to learn about the Elevate Crop and Overlay and to see how I styled mine. 🙂 The pattern (yes, both pieces are included with all their amazing options!) is on sale through Sunday for only $9.50!
Let’s start with the crop. The first version I made during pretesting was the racerback version. I used the Steel Gray Yoga Knit from The Styled Magnolia. I used bands for this version. I was excited about the pattern… but wanted to wait until testing began to make more in case the pattern changed.
When testing began, I wanted to try the U back. I measured into a D for bust and E for waist, so I graded and the fit is pretty darn good. I almost always choose racerback versions when sewing up a pattern, and wanted to mix things up. I decided to sew up the Black Heathered Marl Poly Lycra Jersey Knit Fabric from The Fabric Fairy. This fabric is one of my new favorites. It’s not too thick, it’s soft (and brushed?), and so comfy! Again, I chose bands. I topstitched all the bands, including the waistband with a single needle on my coverstitch. This is becoming one of my favorite ways to topstitch.
Finally, the latest version I made was with these mono stripes from The Styled Magnolia. Unfortunately this fabric is no longer available at this time. I wanted to add a fun accent to the back (as if the print isn’t enough!) and opted for the Laser Cut Performance Tricot from Greenstyle Creations. Angie, the owner, had used the white tricot on a teaser crop, and I loved the look!
I used bindings on this one, and opted to cut the waistband on the fold so the stripes were even on both sides. I also added about 1/2″ to the length of this one to adjust for height, and I really like where this one hits. I also used the neckline from size E, which added a tiny bit of length to the straps.
Of course, I had to make matching Super G Tights! I used the Laser Cut Tricot on the waistband to tie them into the crop. I love the look!
The first overlay I made, I chose to make the sleeveless version. I wanted to check fit, but thankfully did not need much adjusting. I made a size D graded to F at the hips. I made this with the Sage Bamboo Lycra Jersey Knit from The Fabric Fairy. My partner had requested a Hudson Pullover with this fabric, and had enough leftover for this overlay!
The second overlay I made was with a Brushed Heathered Hacci Sweater Knit from Raspberry Creek Fabrics. I wanted a cute sweater version, and this fit the bill! This time, I chose to use the long sleeved version-which I love! I added about half and inch to the length at the hem for my height. This fabric has very limited vertical stretch, but still worked great for the overlay since it is a loose fit.
I opted to style this sweater three ways! First, as a workout coverup. The top works great over leggings and paired with the Elevate Crop or sports bra.
Next, I moved onto a casual look. I paired this one with a lacy bra, Brassie Joggers, and slip-on sneakers. This look is perfect for running errands or lounging at home.
Finally, I decided to dress the Overlay up with jeans and ankle boots. This look is perfect for happy hour or a dinner out. This top in the right fabric can definitely be worn from morning to night with many different looks!
I wanted to make a couple more Elevate Crops and Overlays, but time didn’t allow! I also am envisioning a cute floral crop with a lightweight overlay. Plus, the overlay has more options that I did not sew up! The bottom hem can be hemmed, or tied closed. One of the testers even left the ties open and wore it as a cardigan. Did I mention that the overlay can be worn with the open part in front? Or with a solid front AND back? SO many options!
The Elevate Crop and Overlay is available in sizes B-M, the new expanded size range at Greenstyle. The pattern is on sale for the introductory price of $9.50 until Sunday, so don’t wait too long-it’s a steal in my opinion!
