I love my Brassie Jogger Shorts by Greenstyle Creations as you can see in this, this, and this post. Those were all made with Cotton/Lycra or French Terry… so I was looking to branch out. I hopped on The Fabric Fairy‘s site a couple months ago and found their Carbon Stretch Woven.
I had never worked with this type of Stretch Woven before, so wasn’t sure what to expect. It has about 20% 4 way stretch and is a medium weight. I took a chance and ordered a yard of the navy to try out some Brassie shorts!
The fabric is great for bottoms! It’s rain and stain resistant and very smooth. Not soft, but smooth and feels good against the skin. It is thicker than their other stretch woven that I had bought for Moxi’s.
I knew I did not want a drawstring, so knew I’d have to add elastic. I went with 2″ elastic from The Fabric Fairy. After attaching the waistband and adding the elastic, I used my coverstitch to stitch through the middle of the elastic all the way around. If you don’t have a coverstitch, you can do this with your preferred stretch stitch on your sewing machine.
The other modification I did was to hem them about one inch shorter than the pattern calls for. This is just where I prefer to have my shorts hit my leg.
I love them! I wore them every few days all summer long. Because they dry quickly and don’t hold stains/dirt/sand, I could usually get a couple of wear out of them before washing if needed. They are paired here with the Green Tee (free pattern!) in bamboo lycra jersey.
I liked them so much… that when I got back home this summer I ordered the same fabric in black!
The only change I made to this pair was to use a one needle chainstitch on my cover stitch around the elastic instead of two needles. I think it looks nicer, but that’s just my preference.
I currently have the black pair on as I’m writing this! I’ve been running errands, sewing, and playing/hanging with the Little all day and they’ve been great! Let me know in the comments what you’ve been up to today. 🙂
As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! Thanks for stopping by!
