I posted recently about some new shorts that I had made the little (you can find that post here)… and realized that the majority of the photos were paired with the Slope Tank from Greenstyle Creations! This has quickly become a new favorite this summer and I figured another post was needed. You can find the pattern on the website and it is already marked as free-no code needed!
I have started making 3T clothes for the little, even though most of his 2T stuff still fits great. When I realized that he’d finally fit into the Slope Tank (the smallest size is a 3T), I quickly cut and sewed up two. I chose the straight hem to start with.
The size is a little big… but still fits great without being too baggy. Bonus is that they’ll probably fit for (at least) the beginning of next Spring/Summer also! The style is relaxed and the arms and neck are finished with bands, making this a quick sew.
The first one I made was with this Sage Green Bamboo Lycra Jersey from the Fabric Fairy. I had never used bamboo for the little, but am so glad I branched out. I am so used to making him everything with CL, that it was nice to make something with more drape and less structure. Plus, bamboo is SO soft. I had enough to make myself a Tee out of this fabric, also… and I only ordered 1 yard!
The second I made was with a panel and coordinate from Sew Big Fabrics. I had won a yard of fabric from a giveaway in their Facebook Group, and ordered the bird panel to go with it. He is fascinated with birds, and recently built a couple of bird houses with my dad. 🙂
This one is also in a bamboo lycra. I believe when I ordered this it was my first time ever trying bamboo! I had been saving it to make a tee that could be worn all year, but instead went for the tank. It will still be able to be layered all year round. Because I only used the coordinate plain fabric for the back of the tank, I have plenty left over to make something else later on! I love solids, so this fabric with a bit of drawn in texture is great to mix things up. 🙂
Then, a couple of days before leaving for six weeks, I decided to use some left over fabric from a Boho Fabrics stocking to sew up one last Slope Tank out of this fun tie dye Dusty Sage French Terry. I first showed the fabric in this post. The drape on this fabric is still good, so the tank lays well. The fabric is only two way stretch, though, which the pattern calls for four way. Thankfully, it still works!
I usually always topstitch my bands to make them lay flat. I like the look, and it adds a great finishing touch.
The Little has been wearing these tanks continuously the last few days. If I had better access to washing facilities right now, I think he’d rotate them everyday! I’ll definitely be sewing up a couple more when I get home in a few weeks.
I love that the Slope Tank is free… it really shows anyone new to Greenstyle Patterns the excellent drafting and instructions that the patterns include. My other favorite free pattern is also by Greenstyle Creations – The Green Tee (post is coming, soon!).
What do you think of this tank? Have you tried it yet? The sizing goes all the way up to size 14, so hopefully this pattern will get a lot of use over the next few years!
As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! Thanks for stopping by!
