I have trying to be more adventurous in my sewing (I may or may not have a pattern with a button hole planned in the near future). Most times that means new patterns with new techniques and features (for me), but sometimes that means fabric, too! When I saw this jacquard mesh would soon be stocking at Boho Fabrics (today!!) I had to try it! I really had no idea what to expect.
I knew what pattern I wanted to try before even having the fabric in hand. For some reason, this screamed a hooded Muscle Up Tank by Greenstyle Creations to me. I had been wanting to make another, but wanted a fabric that would make it stand out.
This jacquard mesh has good horizontal stretch and a little vertical stretch. The under layer, the blueish color, is slightly see through (as can be seen on the hood in the photo below). The top color is a beautiful grey/purple color. Photos do not do this color justice!
I first wrote about the Muscle Up Tank here, when I tested the pattern. I currently have another hooded version cut out for my partner… in the same fabric from Boho Fabrics that I made my first one in, per his request. Joke will be on him when I try to match him… 🙂 🙂
For this one, I went with an XS, grading out to a S at the hemline. Remember, this pattern is a straight side cut from chest to hip, so grading up for hips may be necessary! My last one with a straight XS fits well, but I wanted the extra ease for future tops. I also did not take out any length. The top is drafted for a height of 5’10” and I am 5’8″. I usually prefer my tops longer than drafted for, so I left it!
I decided to add a kangaroo pocket to this one. I didn’t want the pocket that came with the pattern in this fabric, so I thought that would be a good idea. I used a pocket I had from another pattern and cut it out. Unfortunately, I think I should have added an inch or two of height to the pocket. Because I tucked the bottom of the pocket into my hem, it is pretty low. Otherwise, I think it works great!
I have these paired with black Super G Tights. I think this top is a great pattern/fabric combo to throw on after a sweaty workout for the drive home from the gym. I also wore it yesterday with some distressed black jean shorts and it was perfect for running errands on 4th Ave!
Remember, this fabric is stocking tonight over at Boho Fabrics. Don’t forget to check out their Facebook page for details on their Mother’s Day sale! Check out Greenstyle’s Facebook page while you’re there-they have a Mother’s Day sale, also! I’m finally going to get the Inspire Tights. 🙂
