Testing the GS Clara Wrap Top

Hello! Y’all, testing the Greenstyle Clara Wrap Top was such a fun test for me. This is not a top I would normally pick out for myself (I normally skip anything that accentuates my small chest), but I really love this one. The pattern is really versatile. It looks great as a wrap top for yoga or dance and it looks stellar dressed up for a night out! Styled plain or with a (Staple) tank underneath, everyone can find the coverage that they’d like!

The pattern first came out as part of the Sew Fab Bundle. The patterns released for the bundle were really great. I had never heard of the bundle before, but the concept is really interesting. Nine pattern designers all designed new patterns to release in the bundle. Patterns could be bought at a discount in bundles of 4-9. But now, a few weeks later, the Clara is releasing on the Greenstyle website!

I measured into the XS for this one, and made no modifications on the first version. I used a double brushed polyester from Pretty Posh Prints (click for a 10% discount!)… the color is Marsala. I absolutely LOVE this color! I normally don’t wear a lot of red, or haven’t for a few years. Being from Nebraska, everything is [Go Big] Red. Husker football is life. Growing up and then attending undergrad there, I had LOTS of red clothing. But, with not having lived there for over six years now, the need for so much red has simmered off.

Back to the Clara Wrap Top. I had never sewn bust darts before, and the instructions were very straight forward. I would definitely suggest basting them and checking fit and placement first and adjusting if necessary! I did not have to adjust mine.

The second version I made was in this ivory modal from JoAnn. I don’t wear a ton of white, but I LOVE this top in this color. It goes with EVERYTHING!

For this one, I opted to fold the darts out. With a knit top and a small chest, this was easy for me to do. I would definitely check your size and need for the dart before making this adjustment. 🙂

Again, I did not make any modifications for my height. I am 5’8″ and Greenstyle tops drafted for females are usually drafted for a height of 5’&7″. Because of the fit and it being a top ended slightly below the waist, I did not feel the need for extra length. But, the pattern does have a lengthen line for those that would prefer more coverage!

What do you think about this top? What will you wear it for? We’ve been in the 90’s everyday so unfortunately I had to pack mine away until the Fall… I think I need to make a short sleeve version for summer dresses and skirts! Let me know your thoughts in the comments. 🙂
