Last September, Patterns for Pirates released the FREE Tulip Tee during their 100,000 fans sale. Such a huge accomplishment. I personally am not a fan of tulip tees, but the pattern also came with solid front and back pieces (mainly because the tulip option was for either back or front) and it is a simple dolman style, which I really like. So, I was sold!
I jumped at the option to sew one up right when the pattern released. I ended up not having quite enough fabric, and had to color block the back, but it gives the top a fun look. I chose a floral print from my stash, which is some sort of rayon blend. The green was also a remnant from my stash and is double brushed polyester. Here in Arizona, DBP is oftentimes too hot, but for the accent at the bottom back, it works great!
The only modifications I made to sizing was adding a bit of length throughout. As mentioned previously, I almost always add about 1/4″ above the armpit to all patterns, and a bit through the waist.
The second one I sewed up (again plain front and back) was with the Charcoal Festive Dots in Rayon/Spandex from Pretty Posh Prints. I took advantage of their Black Friday sale and ordered a few different fabrics from them. 🙂
This one is a great basic tee to add to my closet. It’s great for layering or as a stand alone top!
As mentioned previously, the pattern is actually a tulip tee, which looks great sewn up. Tulip tops are not my style, so I went with the basic dolman version. 🙂 Plus, who doesn’t love a great FREE pattern-no code needed!
As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! Thanks for stopping by!
Cheers!
