My First Sew Along – Greenstyle Raglans

I cannot remember if I have ever participated in a Sew Along before, but in December, I joined Sarah from Sewing with Sarah and the Greenstyle Creations team in my first official Sew Along. The Sew Along was for both their men’s and women’s raglan patterns, a fun way to combine both patterns.

Sew Alongs are fun, because whoever is leading it is there to ask questions. You can see what others are doing, and what hack’s people are attempting. Photos are posted under daily posts, so everyone stays together and can check on each other’s status. It also is very encouraging to have others cheer you on! Most Sew Alongs also have a prize that everyone that finishes a project is entered into a raffle to win! I am excited to take part of the next Greenstyle Pattern Sew Along this month in the Fabric Fairy‘s Facebook Group for the Power Sports Bra (written up here)!

Because of winter break, I actually had time to sew up both… in about two days! I had sewn one of the men’s pattern just a couple of weeks previously, so this pattern was not new to me. The men’s pattern is the Hudson Pullover. I opted for the hoodie, to mix it up from the first one I had sewn, and as a request from my partner!

I did a broad shoulder adjustment for him. I did this before sewing up the first one, as retail clothing is always snug in the shoulders or wide in the body for him. I used this tutorial from 5 out of 4 Patterns. A pretty simple technique, that has always worked well for me! I had already worked out any kinks the previous time I had made the pattern, so I followed those and this was a breeze to sew!

One of my favorite features on this pattern is the hood. The hood is fully lined and cut on the fold, so it is all one piece. I had never sewn a hood like this before! But, I always learn something new in every Greenstyle pattern I sew up. One of the many reasons I keep going back to their patterns.

These two raglan hoodies were also my first time doing a kangaroo pocket on a top! The instructions were very clear, and with the help of an iron and my coverstitch, sewing them on was a breeze!

The women’s raglan pattern is the Centerfield Raglan which has an add-on pack with a hood and cowl. I had not sewn this pattern up, and was eager to try out another pattern! I also opted for a hoodie, as I was on a hoodie kick. I actually ended up using the Hudson hood, because the Centerfield hood is in three pieces, and I was using a floral print that I didn’t want to break up! The pattern fits great, and is a more slim fit on me.

I made it in French Terry, just like my husband’s! The floral is from Sincerely Rylee, and is her infamous “Nala” pattern.

Since the sew along, I have made my husband two more Greenstyle Hudson‘s, without the hood, and myself one more Centerfield Raglan! I used these patterns as the tops for our matching Christmas pajamas this year. I kind of forgot about them until last minute and needed sewing patterns that I knew fit well and were quick! I am glad to have two more patterns to as as a go-to to my list. 🙂 It also is nice seeing him wear a Hudson every other day!

As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! Thanks for stopping by!
